The  Hospitality & Tourism Research Center (HTRC) is the leading source for quality research on and for the hospitality industry. It creates new knowledge—and shares that knowledge to power hospitality forward. At roundtables and other meetings, Winchester City University’s School of Hospitality & Tourism faculty, corporate partners, and other industry leaders collaborate to frame timely issues and understand important topics.
The HRC Fellows work with business leaders to develop new ideas, theories, and models that improve strategic, managerial, and operating practices. These insights are captured in research reports and industry tools that are available online at no cost. Thousands of academic and business leaders worldwide tap into this research stream. An active knowledge-sharing program further distributes the center’s work around the globe.
Our students from the School of Hospitality & Tourism are fully involved in the hospitality and tourism research as well as in the internship programs with our partners in many countries.
Our mission is to help hospitality industry operators solve the organizational problems and challenges they are facing in today’s competitive environment. In executing our mission, we deliver educational programs, seminars and research with the highest degree of professionalism based on thought leadership and innovation.

Research Areas

The School of Hospitality and Tourism Management is recognized as a centre of excellence for research in international hospitality and tourism.
Our aim is to conduct rigorous research that advances academics' understanding about the management of hospitality and tourism organizations and destinations nationally and internationally, addresses the needs of organizations and policy makers and informs teaching and learning practices. The school has a very supportive and collegiate research culture developing knowledge and skill capacities in hospitality and tourism management with particular focus to the following research areas:

Defining Tourism Opportunities

The Hospitality & Tourism Research Center (HTRC) at the Winchester City University is a collaborative effort of the Division of the School of Hospitality and Tourism Management (SHTM). Principally known for its economic analysis and forecasts, the Research Center has also conducted research studies such as visitor profiles, forecast of tourism indicators, customer satisfaction surveys and analysis of casino gambling impacts. Each faculty member has broad experience in the tourism and hospitality industry and has extensive academic preparation.
The function of the Hospitality Research Center is to provide a variety of research services to hospitality, travel and tourism organizations.

Center for Sustainable Tourism

The Center for Sustainable Tourism supports both applied and academic research that furthers responsible economic, environmental and socio-cultural development and management of tourism. Tourism’s footprint is large, contributing to both positive and negative outcomes; it is also an industry which at times is fragile, impacted in many ways by its surroundings.  Research supported by the Center follows major initiatives.

Tourism Research

The Hospitality & Tourism Research Center provides innovative research of value to industry, community, and policy-makers. Tourism Crisis
Research

The Hospitality & Tourism Research Center focuses on the tourism crisis research inorder to fight against the tourism crisis. The center focuses on the following:

  • To provide assistance for tourism and hospitality organizations/destinations to be prepared when challenged with catastrophic events.
  • To identify best planning practices for extraordinary events that might disrupt normal business operations.
  • To provide training for tourism and hospitality organizations/destinations to become prepared for catastrophic events.
