The School of Hospitality and Tourism Management is recognized as a world-leading centre of excellence. Our graduates work in hospitality and tourism industry around the world and make an enormous contribution to the development of their subjects.
Our academics have an international reputation for research that shapes the agendas of scholarship and practice. We see doctoral students as important collaborators in this work, challenging you with new ideas that develop you as a critical researcher, as well as helping you build a solid grounding in research methods and methodology. You will be part of an internationally diverse community of over 260 doctoral researchers, with the chance to participate in seminars, conferences, subject/research groups, and the School’s PhD researcher seminar series. Hospitality, Tourism and Food We have an outstanding reputation for innovative tourism research based on the theoretical depth, empirical rigour and originality of our work. In addressing key tourism challenges in the modern world, we take pride in shaping academic debates, international policy and tourism practices. Our hospitality and food research focuses on understanding consumer behaviour and investigating alternative approaches that can improve the performance of businesses in the sector. The School conducts research into management policies, procedures and processes that lead to enhanced performance – both for large firms and small enterprises – across all sectors of the hospitality and food industry. Global Wine Tourism: Research, Management and Marketing Wine regions are attracting increasing numbers of tourists through tours, wine festivals and winery, restaurant and cellar door experiences. Presenting applied research in wine tourism from Europe, North America, South Africa, Australia and New Zealand this book reviews the latest management and marketing strategies. It highlights the lessons learnt for wine and tourism industries and concludes by examining the future of the wine tourism industry. Research Opportunities
Research opportunities are available due to the high level of research productivity in the department. Graduate students are afforded the opportunity to become well-rounded researchers via coursework, special projects, and experience as research assistants. Industry partnerships with many corporate headquarters of leading retailers. The program offers the opportunity to work on industry-related projects through the Institute for Service Excellence.
Research degrees provide a foundation for successful academic careers and are appropriate for those who require depth of expertise in focused areas to support career progression. The school has a strong, collaborative and creative research culture. Students benefit from regular research seminars, residential writing retreats and overseas workshops dedicated to those on the doctoral program.
