The Westland City University will cultivate a student body with the capacity to excel in its programs while endeavoring to make its education accessible and affordable.

To ensure that its students have a high potential to succeed, the university will

• Further strengthen undergraduate and graduate standards by admitting those with the optimal skills and aptitude to succeed
• Develop a recruitment plan which supports optimum program enrollment

To help make its education more affordable, the university will

• Continue to increase its investment in student scholarship support
• Develop a financial literacy program for students and their parents to promote the responsible and prudent approach to financing their education
• Provide financial support to undergraduate students who participate in unpaid internships

Community Service
A priority at WCU is developing students who have the skills and training to be leaders in industry and in their communities.

Community Collaborations
Through a range of business and community collaborations, WCU supports public schools and a wide variety of nonprofit organizations in each of our campus markets, as well as environmental organizations and police and fire departments.

WCU has invested over $600 million in construction and renovation across its  campuses.

Institutional Research
Institutional Research supports Westland City University’s mission by promoting a campus culture in which decision-making at all levels is based on sufficient and appropriate quantitative and qualitative evidence.

The office carries out this aim by preparing standard statistical reports, conducting survey research and performing data analysis that provide an understanding of WCU’s internal operations and external environment. In addition, the office is responsible for ensuring that all institutional information supplied to external parties is accurate, consistent and timely in its delivery.

Responsibilities

• Helps ensure that university data is accurately and efficiently maintained on university databases.
• Creates and maintains standard statistical reports on admissions, enrollment, retention, graduation, finance, faculty/staff and other critical institutional issues.
• Designs (or selects pre-designed, nationally-normed) instruments on a broad array of institutional issues, administers them, analyzes results and presents findings to the campus community.
• Supports planning, accreditation, and assessment projects and processes.
• Completes the Common Data Set and other surveys for key college guide publishers.
• Responds to ad hoc requests for information and analysis from faculty, staff and external parties when appropriate.

Faculty Center for Academic Excellence & Innovation
The Faculty Center for Academic Excellence & Innovation has been established to advance WCU’s culture of educational excellence by offering programs that support faculty work and career development.

Our Purpose
The Faculty Center serves as the vibrant hub of professional development for all WCU faculty.
By offering a diverse menu of programs, workshops and other opportunities, the Faculty Center helps faculty advance their academic careers, strengthen collaborative relationships with colleagues, enhance student engagement, and sustain their academic vitality at the university.

Our Programs
Our programs focus on thematic areas central to academic work, including:

• Teaching & Learning: Focused, interactive, application-based sessions on specific teaching and learning topics that have immediate and direct applicability to faculty work
• Scholarship: Programs that assist faculty in moving their teaching to publication or presentation through sequential, hands-on sessions with teacher-scholar peers
• Career Advancement & Leadership Development: Integrated programming to help faculty navigate the promotion process, prepare their dossiers for promotion, as well as enhance their leadership skills
• Mentoring: Collaborative relationships that support the professional career needs of faculty at all stages of their careers
